The Mad Carper

What are the intentions of this site?

Carper; A person who fishes for Carp, wether they be Common, Mirror, or Grass. A Carper is someone who enjoys the hunt for that elusive trohpy Carp. Always looking for new spots and trying new techniques, they are ingenious in their efforts to fool a wise, old Carp. They tinker with their tackle and rigs until they are perfect in their presentation. Knowing that a true trophy Carp has endured years in the wild, they understand that catching one of these giants requires patience, persistence and skill. A complete understanding of the body of water they are fishing is a must. A Carper knows that a trophy Carp is extremely cautious and any new and unusual food is likely to be rejected. Even a bait that the Carp is accustomed to will be rejected if not presented properly. Always wary, it will not make a hasty dash for the bait simply because it is looking for a meal. A trophy Carp is selective in it's eating habits. Because of all of this, Carp are one of fishing's best kept secrets.

The Story Behind My Site
On these pages I intend on giving my thoughts on the world of Carp fishing here in the states. I will try to keep it as simple as possible. When I think that you may need more detailed information I will point you towards one of the many informative Carp sites on the net. I am not as experienced as some other Carp fisherman but Carp fishing has turned into a passion for me. It is more than just a hobby. The whole process that involves catching a trophy Carp is intriguing, and for me, every day on the water is different.
I am from Massachusetts where we are lucky to have a number of places to fish for quality Carp. From major rivers like the Merrimack and the Connecticut to smaller lakes and ponds, there are a number of places that anyone can easily fish with the hope of hooking that elusive trophy.

Common Carp, being my most sought after species, is what I usually stalk. Mirror Carp are plentiful in some of the waters that I fish and when I find some I definitely like to catch and release as many as I can. A trophy Carp, no matter the species, is truly something to be proud of. There are only a handful of anglers who can claim to catch trophy Carp on a consistent basis. This fact is what drew me most to the world of Carp fishing.

A dream....
I would love to start a club dedicated to fishing for Carp here in Massachusetts. The Carp Anglers Group is an excellent group of Carp fisherman from around the world. They have done wonders for the Carp angling communtiy. I would like to bring Carp fisherman from Massachusetts together and start a club modeled after what the folks at CAG have done. It may sound unrealistic to some but I believe it is possible.
